Justin Whittaker Police officer and PCP paramedic.

Justin has spent his career as a first responder. While still in high school he joined the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary in Sidney and participated in rescue activities in the Southern Gulf Islands and BC coastal waters. Here he received his initial training in first aid, marine survival and became Canadian Coast Guard certified in search and rescue. This evolved into his first career as an EMA 1/PCP (Paramedic), BC Ambulance Service. In 2003 he joined the Vancouver Police Department, and in 2004 moved to the Saanich Police Department. Drawn to first response activities he was for six years, a police Canine handler and in 2014 became a Crisis Negotiator with the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team. Justin re-certified as a Primary Care Paramedic in 2015.

Mike Kay Advanced Care Paramedic Instructor.

Mike is an advanced care paramedic with 37 years’ experience. He is the principal of Kay’s Consulting, an organization which provides instruction and mentoring to up and coming Paramedics. In addition to his career with the BC Ambulance service, Mike has been an instructor at the Paramedic Academy of the Justice Institute for twenty-five years. He has also, for eighteen years, been the medical instructor at CFB Comox for the DND, Search & Rescue Technicians. Mike is a certified instructor in the following disciplines: ACP, PCP, DND, ITLS, and AIME.
